Bring de Rain

"Bring de rain" I really didn't get it initially when Hugo Greaves said that was his favourite quote. However, after a few seconds of thought (and his confirmation) it was clear. Whether rains or stormy weather, Hugo gives it his all and this has proven to be a characteristic integral to his success. This former "palm tree" who now has the a near perfect balance in his physique, is also a personal trainer at ABC Fitness Studios. "I'm just happy to be one of the people who care enough to help others with their physical state and fitness." Below see how Hugo, who copped the title of Barbados' first ever Mr Classic Physique at the Barbados Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation's National competition in August of this year, gets it all done. Oh, and ladies let me answer your question early; He is married. ;)
How old are you?

What industry do you work in?
Health and fitness.

How and when did you get started in fitness? Tell us about your journey.
I lifted my first weight at 8, started research in bodybuilding and exercise at the age of 14, did my first show at the age of 27, became a personal trainer at 29 and won my first show a few days ago.

What are some of your accomplishments in fitness/sport?
As a middleweight bodybuilder competing at Nationals; 2nd- 2010; 3rd- 2011; 2nd- 2012; 2nd- 2013 and
2016 Classic Physique - 1st place.

When do you train?
I have been training mostly mornings these past couple of months but I can train any time.

How many days of the week do you train?
5-7days in my contest season and 4-5 in my off season.

How do you manage your workouts?
I currently use a 3 day split that starts over on day 4. Workouts last between 45mins - 1 1/2hrs.

How do you manage your nutrition?
Most of my meals are premeditated and I eat every 3-4hrs.

What are your long and short term goals?
One of my long term goals is to become one of the best personal trainers/ fitness coaches this world has ever seen.
One of my short term goals is to become an IFBB pro athlete.

What is your favourite body part/body part or the one you are most proud of and why?
I'm actually proud of my legs because when I first started I NEVER trained them. Back then it was all chest, arms and abs until one while bareback and in shorts at home feeling sexy my sister came by, saw me and said, "boy you look like a palm tree" the rest is history.

How often do you work on your legs?
Until the world either goes dark or becomes unstable; twice a week.

What do you need to work on the most?
My back.

Team Eat clean or Team IIFIYM?
Eat clean.

What are your favourite meals?
I don't have any.

Do you have “cheat meals”? What are your favourite ones?
I love pastries but sweet bread and cheese tops the list.

What supplements do you take if any?
Amino acids.

When eating out, do you go to find a tasty or a healthy meal?
If I eat out it will be a cheat meal.

What is the most challenging part of your journey?
Being the fitness/healthy example for others to follow.

What have you learned about yourself and others along the way?
I have learned that I should not seek the approval of others but instead go to God.

Have you had any negative comments about your appearance or lifestyle? How do you deal with them?
I ignore based on the above answer.

What motivates you?
When people leave my presence feeling empowered, energized, loved or one step closer to their goals.

Who inspires you?
Ex Mr Olympia Frank Zane.

Tell us about your support system.
My wife helps with my meals and critiques my body. I have a few fans and friends who keep encouraging me and keep me on my toes.

Do you find it challenging to have a social life?
No not at all.

What hobbies do you have outside of fitness/sport?
I love photography and playing drums.

What advice do you have for people looking to get in shape?
1. Write 5 reasons why you want to get into shape.
2. If you are not self driven find someone who will help you get there.
3. Just do it.
